ERASMUS (FAQ)

1.    Can I benefit from the Erasmus+ Program in my first year at university?

Students in their freshman year of associate and undergraduate programs and graduated students cannot benefit from the student mobility activity. However, students may apply for the Erasmus exam after receiving their transcript at the end of the first semester of the year in which they started university. In this case, the earliest period for which they can benefit from the student mobility is the first semester of the second year. Senior students may benefit from Erasmus+ Internship Mobility after graduating, provided that they apply before graduating.

2.    Which universities can I go to?

Every department has agreements with different universities. The universities with which the department has an agreement can be seen on the web page (https://uib.iku.edu.tr/en/degisim-programlari/partner- universiteler). When choosing a partner university, applicants must take into consideration medium of instruction and course compatibility.

3.    What will be the medium of instruction of the courses I will take at the university I will go to?

The medium of instruction at universities in which students study abroad is expressed in the agreement texts in the agreements section of our website. During the Erasmus application period, our students are advised to make their choice by reviewing these agreements and consulting department coordinator and to research the places they want to go to.

4.    How do I choose the courses I will take during my Erasmus+ study mobility period?

A learning agreement is signed with each student together with the department coordinator before studying abroad. In the Learning Agreement, the names and codes of the courses that the student will take at the institution and ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are written. The list of courses can be obtained by the receiving university. The course list can be downloaded from the web page of the university (https://akademikpaket.iku.edu.tr/EN/ects_bolum.php?m=1&p=11&f=0&r=0&ects=ders) and the selection is made together with the department coordinator. The Learning Agreement must have the signatures of the Erasmus department coordinator and the Erasmus institution coordinator of both institutions, as well as the student.

The changes to be made in the learning agreement for various reasons must be approved by the student's own higher education institution and the higher education institution officials.

5.    What is a Learning Agreement?

The Learning Agreement is the document that shows the courses you will take at the university you attend, together with their credits. It shows the courses you will take there.

You can obtain the necessary documents for the agreements from the link below. https://uib.iku.edu.tr/tr/degisim-programlari/faydali-dokumanlar

6.    How do I decide which courses to take?

In return for the courses that the student is required to take at the university in Turkey, the equivalent courses are determined at the higher education institution and the recognition of the courses taken is registered and secured by the Learning Agreement signed between the student, the student's own institution and the

institution he/she will attend before the exchange period. It is not expected that the course names and contents will be exactly the same, it is sufficient that the course contents overlap.

7.    Is there a certain number of courses I will take at the institution I will go to?

While choosing the course, 30 ECTS credits for the semester and 60 ECTS credits for the 1 year should be targeted. Students are exempt from courses equal to the total credit amount of the courses they are successful in.

8.    Can I make changes to the Learning Agreement?

The courses you will take at the university you are matched with may not be available, and the course hours may not fit your schedule. In this case, you can change your courses by talking to your department coordinator. You must use the during mobility form of the Learning Agreement to make changes.

9.    Will the courses I take during the Erasmus+ learning mobility period be recognized at my own university?

The processes related to the recognition of the courses and grade conversions of the students returning from the exchange take place after the learning agreements and transcript received by the student from the receiving school are delivered to the department.

10.    Can I change my preference?

During the placement process of the students, the quota of the relevant partner institution and students’ Erasmus score are taken into consideration. Therefore, students cannot change the institution they are placed in unless there is a force majeure reason.

11.    I want to waive my Erasmus right, what should I do?

You must fill out the withdrawal form on the learning mobility forms web page and submit it to the department coordinator.

12.    Can I extend my Erasmus mobility period?

Within the framework of an Erasmus Bilateral Agreement covering 1 academic term, after being an Erasmus student with a grant in the 1st term, they may want to benefit from Erasmus in the 2nd term. In this case, the written approval of both the department/faculty of the university in Turkey and the department/institution coordinator of the university abroad is required. If we do not have a grant for the extension, the student can extend the Erasmus program without a grant, provided that all the obligations of the Erasmus program are fulfilled.

13.    How many times can I benefit from the Erasmus+ program?

You cannot benefit from the Erasmus program in student status for more than 12 months at each level of education (undergraduate - postgraduate).

14.    Can an internship be done before the start of Erasmus mobility?

An internship can be done before the start of Erasmus mobility and is accepted on the condition that you select the relevant “Internship” course in the first semester you will register at İKÜ upon your return from Erasmus and submit your internship documents in full. If the internship course is not selected in the relevant semester, the
